It is on the stage that I have realized my wildest fantasies. I’ve channeled every fiber of my being into magical characters of my own, and others’ creation: more than anything else, theater has been a process of self-actualization. Understanding the depths and limits of my own body, voice, and psyche, I’ve been able to mentor others on this same journey. In recent years, directing has been a foremost avenue through which I have built community, for it is an endeavor that inspires creativity, fosters passion, and commands humility. I have discovered that the skills theater instills in a practitioner have a great degree of transferability. As a student government leader, I’ve been able to use the collaborative and disciplinary speaking skills to hone my approach towards my constituents. As a debate and model UN participant, I’m better able to embody personas on this theatrical world stage. As a political activist and journalist, I’ve learnt how the role of the storyteller is one that stretches far beyond the freeing confines of a stage.
